Sledding mishap

David, Madelyn and Daddy decided to take advantage of the warm temperatures and remaining snow and go sledding.  Of course they were having fun.  But as Madelyn went down one hill, she hit some chunked ice at the bottom and went flying.  She of course cried.  But after a little resting, thought she was good and went down another hill.  However this time, tears began again and they decided to call it a day and come home.  When they got home, Daniel brought her in and laid her down on the couch.  After talking to her and feeling where she hurt, I decided we should go to the ER and get it checked out to be safe.

Sure enough, she has broken her left collar bone.  As you can see from the x-ray above, it is bent.  Apparently for kiddos, their bones do not snap like an adults.  The ER Dr. called it a green twig break.  Basically it bends and breaks, but does not snap.  She was really brave today.  And she got the star treatment from the nurses.  She scored a bracelet, a Strawberry Shortcake doll and spoon, a free ice cream cone from McD's and some stickers.  We even came home with the hospital gown.  :)

There's really not too much they can do.  She has to wear a sling for 3-6 weeks for healing and stabilization.  They suggested Tylenol for pain and to take it easy.  We will follow up Monday with an orthopedist.   I've got some ideas on how we can dress up the blah blue sling since we'll be wearing it for awhile.  And of course, Daddy is going to make a sling for Baby.  :)

Tonight's bedtime and bath were a little rough for her.  She is so scared to feel pain that she just doesn't want to move at all.  I think that she has gone through a pretty traumatic day.  Right now she's sleeping well and I hope that she feels better day by day.  I am so proud of my little girl for being so brave.  But most of all, I am so thankful to God for keeping her safe.  I'll take a broken bone any day.  They always heal.    :)
